A recall announced yesterday for a common children's vaccine alarmed parents, but officials said there is no need to worry. Drugmaker Merck & Co. recalled doses of a vaccine against Hib, which causes meningitis and pneumonia, and a combination vaccine for Hib and hepatitis B. The doses were recalled after the drug company discovered sterility problems at a Pennsylvania production plant. Merck supplies about half the nation's annual supply of the Hib vaccine.

Former Vice President Al Gore said the United States was "principally responsible" for stalling the ongoing climate talks in Bali, Indonesia. Gore sped to Bali after being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo earlier this week for his work on global warming. Gore urged delegates, with or without the support of the United States, to reach an agreement to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
