+ More

May was the third-deadliest month for U.S. troops in Iraq since the war began, according to statistics independently compiled by iCasualties.org, a leading authority on American fatalities in the country.

The site reports 125 U.S. soldiers killed last month, a figure exceeded only by April 2004, when 135 died, and November 2004, when 137 fatalities were reported. May was also the third deadliest in terms of average fatalities per day, at just over four, not including the last two weeks in March 2003, when the war began.
