Barbara Bush Returns Home From Texas Hospital

The former first lady had been treated for pneumonia.

Former first lady Barbara Bush was released from Methodist Hospital in Houston during the weekend. She returned home in time to celebrate her 69th wedding anniversary with former President George H.W. Bush today. The couple lives in Houston.

A Bush family spokesman said the former first lady, 88, had been treated for pneumonia at the hospital since Dec. 30. She was discharged Saturday.

During nearly a week in the hospital, her husband used Twitter to thank President Obama and former President Bill Clinton for the get-well wishes they sent to Barbara Bush. The former president, who opened a Twitter account a few weeks ago, said his wife was "heeding their advice. Doesnt happen w every President she knows!"

Mrs. Bush has had a number of medical problems in recent years. In November 2008, she had surgery for a perforated ulcer. She had heart surgery in 2009. Former President Bush, 89, has also had his share of physical problems and now uses a wheelchair.
