Americans are skeptical over vacations for politicians.

Americans are highly skeptical about whether President Obama and Congress deserve their summer vacations, with Congress getting far more negative assessments than the president. Obama begins a weeklong holiday on Saturday; Congress started its August recess Monday.

Eighty-two percent of voters don't think Congress has worked hard enough to take so much time off, according to a new Fox News poll. Only 14 percent say the legislators deserve the holiday.

The consensus is spread over the political spectrum. Analyzed by party affiliation, 87 percent of independents, 82 percent of Republicans, and 80 percent of Democrats say Congress should not get the time off.

This view is underscored by overall dissatisfaction with the job that Congress has been doing. Sixty-six percent disapprove of congressional Republicans' job performance, and 60 percent disapprove of the job being done by congressional Democrats, numbers which have not changed substantially from June and March, Fox pollsters say.

President Barack Obama speaks to U.S. troops and their families at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013.

Voters are split on whether Obama merits his holiday, which he and his family are planning to spend at a luxurious rented estate in Martha's Vineyard, Mass. Forty-eight percent say the president has worked hard enough to deserve a weeklong vacation, while 48 percent say he hasn't. Analyzed by party, 80 percent of Democrats say the president should take the time off, compared with 36 percent of independents and 23 percent of Republicans.

Obama's job rating is not as bad as Congress's but it's fading. Forty-two percent of voters approve of the job he's doing, down from 46 percent in July, while 52 percent disapprove.
