The Most Rev. Thomas Tobin, Roman Catholic bishop of Providence, greets parishioners yesterday in Riverside, R.I. Rep. Patrick Kennedy, a Rhode Island Democrat, says Tobin ordered him to stop taking Communion because of Kennedy's support for abortion rights, but the bishop says it was meant as a request.

I find it intriguing that Catholics, clergy and laity, take such a strong stand against abortion and the "killing" of fetuses not yet able to survive on their own, lobby to end capital punishment, yet turn a closed heart and a deaf ear to the killing of thousands of living, viable human beings in the many wars that this country has conducted over the last half century. Catholics still send their sons (and daughters) to war to kill and be killed, then call those who were lucky enough to survive "heroes" when they return from the killing fields, even though many of them had taken the lives of men, women and children.

Get the message, Catholics; we pro-abortion people are not pro-killing of fetuses. We are pro-CHOICE. God gave man choice, and the Church cannot take it away, at least not in this democracy where every man, woman and child is guaranteed the right to believe in whatever religion they choose. It's time the Church realized it has not the right to dictate morality for the country. Let Catholics live their faith, and leave the rest of us alone!

It is our Catholic beleaf that in receaving the Body and Blood of our Devine Savior Jesus Christ, we must be pure in spirit and heart. This can be attained by the sacrament of holy Confession, where we confess our sins to the priest who takes the place of our Lord God. Mr. Kennedy not only denied the Catholic teaching that was directed to him personally, but he also denied the law of God which states you shall not kill. Only God knows in His mercy when the the soul enters man, I take the words of the Mother of God when She stated " I am the Immaculate Conception. "
