Sikh devotees throng the Golden Temple, the religion's holiest shrine, on Monday to mark the anniversary of the first Sikh guru, Guru Nanak. The temple is in Amritsar, India. Guru Nanak was born a Hindu in the 15th century, but his followers rejected Hinduism's ritualism and its views of caste.
