Is Obama Having It Both Ways on Gay Marriage?

"If you want more "morality" from the gays in your society, that's how you'll get it."

That is a very ugly statement in an otherwise decent post.

I would urge you to rethink that statement.

For it is not gay citizens who are acting immorally here. Equating sexual orientation with morality is dumb. The gay couple I know are every bit as 'moral' as the straight couples I know.

Sexuality is morally neutral, as it is biologically determined. It is BEHAVIOR which society deems moral or immoral. And since straight folks love to accuse gay men of being promiscuous (my 6 partners in 40 years is promiscuous????) while ignoring the statistics about THEIR sexuality; such as the number of abortions performed in the U.S. ALONE, and with Heterosexuals reaching nearly 80% of the HIV cases worldwide , is god now punishing Heterosexuals, since gays were told that god was punishing US? Tsk, tsk, such morals, Heteros!

This would all be much easier to take if people were just honest about their bigotry. But watching Heterosexuals try and justify treating the very gay children that Heterosexuals themselves created as less than human beings is about the most immoral spectacle it has ever been my misfortune of witnessing. But for Heterosexuals to demand that their government also participate in this abuse??? It is APARTHEID. Look up the definition.

STOP GAY APARTHEID!!!

Obama knows you cannot call for gay marriage in a campaign and be elected president of the United States. Thankfully he is that smart---so we don't have to suffer under some smart aleck like Mike Pence or Sarah Palin.

Obama also knows that state bans on gay marriage are (or should be declared) unconstitutional---if you have a proper Supreme Court.

There simply is no basis in America for laws about civil matters that are based solely on religious beliefs---no matter how many people may claim those beliefs. The constitution and bill of rights are there precisely to protect the minority of individuals from tyranny of the majority holding whatever religious opinions.

Yes, I'm a straight grandfather married (only once) to a woman. But I also know that gay people should be ENCOURAGED by all of us to have full-rights, full-responsibility, FIRST-CLASS marriages with monogamy for life---just like the ideal norm for straights. If you want more "morality" from the gays in your society, that's how you'll get it.

What President Obama is saying and he has explicitly stated this many times is that he does not support same-sex marriage but is against same-sex marriage bans. That's really the point! Just because you have a personal religious belief that does not support same-sex marriage does not mean you can or should codify that belief in law. As they say, if you have a problem with gay marriage don't get gay married. There are many Americans and religious leaders that support same-sex marriage and they have just as much right to their belief as President Obama and the Catholic, Mormon and Baptist churches.

Since when do the people of the united states get to believe what my religion does or does not sanction?

In 1996 Obama did an interview with Chicago's WIndy City Times. In that interview, he was in support of same-sex marriage.

He only changed his 'view' when he became a serious candidate for President.

He is no different than any other politician. Willing to sacrifice the human rights of 30 million American citizens on order to advance himself politically.

Same old, same old.

America the Beautiful??? Land of the free?????? Home of the what?????????

I guess we need a new Bill of Rights, which would add the tag 'unless you are a gay American' to all the freedoms and liberties listed therein. Americans, it seems, have no issues with writing bigotry and discrimination into our Constitution. How very moral of you???

This country is ignoring & denying 30 million citizens fundamental human rights. This country is abusing the Constitution and participating in Apartheid against its gay citizens. The very gay citizens that were created solely by Heterosexual sex. And all the while, most of these Heterosexuals are screaming their heads off about morality, while abusing, degrading, humiliating and dehumanizing 30 million Americans. Again, how very moral of you.

Morality indeed, America & Obama. Morality indeed.
