Any politician worth their salt knows that you cannot alienate ANY voting bloc if you can avoid it. There are supposed to be no religious tests to become a public official, but the court of public opinion demands that our president attend church...whether they want to or not. Personally, I find it refreshing to not have the leader of our nation wearing the supernatural on his sleeve and making decisions based on mythology.
I am a non-theist and have no need for a god to lead an ethical and full life. There are few things as dangerous as mixing God and governance. Let's keep religion personal and make public policy based on facts and evidence. If Mr. Obama needs to walk into a church once in a while to placate the religiously inculcated...well...he unfortunately has to do it.

Thank you Ralph for your comment that included scripture. I know you are sincere but for those who are watching President's Obama's church attendance, they will not even understand nor care about that scripture. I remember a dear friend of mine who cried because her husband berated her about not being the Christian that I was. I helped her understand that her husband was not complimenting me, nor did he even care. He was simply using what he thought would make his wife feel bad. Any thing that President Obama's distractors can use, they do. They are not really concerned about his church attendance. As a Christian, myself, I know the importance of church attendance, but I can tell you that it is not taken lightly by serious Christians. We do not simply attend church no more than one would just attend any ole school. Much thought and prayer goes into who we fellowship with. I know I am opening up a can of worms because of those who refuse to understand the comments of President Obama's former pastor. I am saying that if we as a country don't stop ridiculing our president because of our personal agendas, more countries will be looking at President Obama in the way we should, awarding commendations and the like. I would rather and have, stayed home from church until I found one that was led by a God-fearing leader.

Yes, Bush & Cheney began wars to give investors access to oil of Kuwait and Iraq. Rice, with a tanker named for her & with ties to oil investment, was the perfect Sec. of State to help lie to Congress & fool them into using taxes to pay weapons merchants. Bush was theatrical about being Born Again as a way to dry him out of alcoholism. He said he prayed every day for God to guide him. I think Obama goes to church because, like all recent candidates, he had to cater to "the religious vote." He may be praying he won't be removed from office some way--secret scandal or whatever-- before he can give more people access to Constitutional freedoms. The best thing he did so far is to make bosses pay women the same wages as men, for the same work. The Equal Rights Amendment failed but at the stroke of a pen, Obama helped everybody who has ties to a working woman. Catholic Phyllis Schlafly bragged she killed the ERA. She said "If the ERA becomes law, churches that don't ordain women will lose tax exemption. For that selfish MONEY0-based reason, her Church harmed all of us. My Soc Sec. is almost zip for years as a secretary at $12 a week.
