Religious Progressives Raise Concerns About Abortion in Healthcare Reform

Ditto Truth:

If the dems want to pass a Health Care bill, a significant step would be language that Abortion Funding will not be included.

Also get rid of language forcing Doctors to discuss End of Life Decisions and eliminate the role of unelected appointed "Bioethics Panels" in patient discission making. Patient care should be between the patient, the physician and the Family.

If they did these things it would eliminate the morally objectionable issues about these proposed bills. That wouldn't make the bills otherwise prudent -this is one area that we need to take our time to have a true conversation about what the Country needs. But it would permit a more rational discussion of the other provisions contemplated.

The Health Care Bill does not exclude abortion funding.

Abortion is slaughter of 3200 babies a day and 1.2 Million a year in American.

Abortion is the #1 cause of death in America.

In 36 years America has slaughter 9 times more babies to abortion than all the people Hitler killed in concentration camps. Abortion is a holocaust.

This is the Truth as written by a christian. This is not a Republican, Democrat, Independent issue. It is a moral issue and question about what America sees as most important. Our wants and comfort for health care should not leave the door open for the slaughter of abortion.

If there were no hidden agenda to support abortion then it would simple be explicit in the bill. They could write it in easy. They could write: Abortion will in no way be supported or funded by this bill.

They are attempting to hide the support of abortion and don't want to address it because it is ugly. America is better than this and the majority of us don't want abortion as part of our health care plan. We know it is wrong.

Stand firm until they are explicit with wording in the bill that abortion is not in the Health Care Bill.

Abortion is not health care. Abortion is war against Life. Abortion is wrong.

An unborn baby is the weakest, poorest, most depended, most needy, and least of our people. How do we treat our poor? Do they get a choice? Do we show them Love?

Love does not destroy.

This is the Truth that Christian Leaders are speaking. They are telling the Truth to protect Life.

Seek the Truth. Speak the Truth. Share the Truth. Defend the Truth.

The Truth will set us free.

Respect, Protect, and Love Life.

Social justice is just a buzz word pro-abortionist use to try to shame people into supporting socialized medicine. If social justice doesn't begin in your mother's womb, when do you think it should begin?

Cecilia of GA 7:04AM September 10, 2009

Health care reform is not about abortion, it is about social justice. It is about living out the word of Christ who requires us to show care and compassion. Explain to me how you can subscribe to bits and pieces of God's word while ignoring his primary message to all of us. Health care reform is a moral mandate to all of humanity. The rest of the world gets that.

Release from the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), September 9, 2009, 9:45 PM EDT

OBAMA PERPETUATES ABORTION FUNDING MYTH

IN JOINT SESSION ADDRESS

WASHINGTON – In his address to a joint session of Congress tonight, President Obama said, "One more misunderstanding I want to clear up -- under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions."

Douglas Johnson, legislative director for the National Right to Life Committee, commented: "Barack Obama needs to learn that the mere repetition of a verbal formula does not change reality. The reality is that the Obama-backed House bill would explicitly authorize the federal government insurance plan to pay for elective abortions and would explicitly authorize subsidies for private abortion insurance -- and all with federal dollars, which are the only kind of dollars that the federal government can spend."

The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) last week released definitive memoranda that demonstrate that (1) the "Hyde Amendment" would not apply to the new programs that would be created by the Obama-backed health bill, H.R. 3200, and (2) that all of the funds that would be spent on elective abortions under the bill, and all of the funds that would be spent to subsidize private insurance plans that cover abortion, would be "federal funds" in both the legal sense and in the sense in which those terms are used throughout the government. The memoranda are here:

"The claim that a federal agency would be spending private funds on abortion, not federal funds, is absurd on its face, a political hoax," Johnson said.

A September 8 NRLC media advisory that summarizes these issues is posted here:

http://www.nrlc.org/AHC/Advisory090809.html

The advisory contains links to the detailed memoranda that disprove the "Hyde Amendment myth" and the "government will spend private funds on abortions myth."

I would really like to see a lawsuit before the Supreme Court on behalf of a fetus that brings together all the medical and scientific evidence showing that the fetus is a separate human life and therefore worthy of equal protection under the law. I don't know if this approach has been tried but it seams to me that the truth should prevail. It seams to me that pro abortionists must not realize that an unborn baby is still a human life. Once the fetuses life has been proven then we can get down to the business of protecting the mothers and there lives also.

If we can't convince America that abortion is wrong and that the mother does NOT have the right to kill the unborn child ...why don't Pro-life attorneys focus on the argument that abortion should not be included in health care coverage since it is "elective." Or does America also want to pay for face lifts and sex changes because the person has decided that's what they "want to do with their body?"

Sandi of FL 7:17PM September 09, 2009

This country is killing off the future. Millions of lives have been extinguished out of selfishness and expediency. We need to take responsibility as individuals and as a nation to amend our ways. This is a Salvation issue, first and foremost (and if this does not resonate with you yet, it will some day). Those who are against the slaughter are not trying to inconvenience you. They are trying to save you from making a mistake that will scar your mind, body, soul and spirit...as well as, your relationship with the One who "knit you" in your own mother's womb.

Praise, glory and honor to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!

Abortion is totally wrong. HR 3200 and current health bills cover abortions from day one of conception to day 269 of the pregnancy and that's horrible. Please no abortions with our tax money in any health plan. Those who want abortions should pay for them themselves or abortion minded people should provide the money on their own, not my money.

Sincerely

"when one tugs on something in nature, it finds itself inextricably linked with all of nature" -John Muir

..and so it is with abortion and society. abortion affects more than the person undergoing it. 'if you don't want an abortion don't have one' is a very simple minded argument. there are nurses and doctors forced against their will to take lives.. get on line, do your research and find out what that's like. find out what its like to take a born alive infant with down's to a utility room to die. look at people who have quit their jobs because they are disgusted of having to 'count all the baby parts' ..yeh, those pictures people like to label 'scare tactics' are simply discarded humans. until you open your eyes you can have any argument you want. those of us who know what abortion is, murder plain and simple. not only do not want to have one (or another one once ours eyes see) we also do not want to pay for murder neither. separation of church and state?? do you really need religion to "judge" killing humans?? with or without religion, its all the same. death. if there were truly informed consent, no one would have abortions.

contraception? contraception mentality feeds the abortion beast. and planned parenthood knows it. www.bloodmoney.com www.afterabortion.org

abortion is legal?? yes it is. and "Jane Roe" (Norma McCorvey) admitted to lying and is now a pro-life activist...most people don't even know that. same for Dr. Bernard Nathanson (founder of NARAL) find out what our 'founders of abortion rights' have to say today.
