You've seen the religious right's ad opposing the Democrats' healthcare reform proposals, alleging they'll pay for abortions with taxpayer money while denying care for certain seniors. Today comes the response from the religious left.
The national cable television ad (above) will be unveiled on a conference call with the news media later today. It features clergy and rank-and-file Christians of various denominational stripes making the case for healthcare reform and decrying "special interests in Washington" who are opposed to it.
"My husband and I keep praying, but our premiums keep rising," says a Catholic woman from Florida.
"Our church is trying to help, but it's just not enough," says a Catholic from New Orleans.
The spot is paid for by a coalition of national religious progressive groups, including Jim Wallis's Sojourners, Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, PICO National Network, and Faithful America.
Interestingly, the ad doesn't respond to the Christian right's allegations about the Democrats' various healthcare bills but rather makes a religious case for Obamacare.
