Oh give me a break!!!! Obama is not for government funding abortion. I find is disturbing that the same people who are fighting for unborn child, would like to deny a child healthcare. What is wrong with this? People do not want to pay taxes for others healthcare...greed. Take a long look at yourself. I do not believe in Abortion I believe it is murder...but Only God will judge a mother who took that action to do so. Children are murdered each day by a mother..is the crime more worse because the child is in womb? I don;t think so. Health care and abortion are two separate fights do not let politicians get away with siding with Insurance companies. Insurance companies have let men, women and children die for the sake of profit..wake up people.

If federal money is actually used for individuals to pay for abortion then the only recourse left to people of conscience is to find ways to not pay taxes. It would be wrong to knowingly fund a government to allow people to kill their babies. We don't know what proportion of our tax money will be used to pay for this atrocity. Even if it's only a penny it would be wrong. Was it not right for those in Nazi Germany to resist the government's killing policies in ways that that government considered illegal? Would it not be right for us in this country to resist our government's policies allowing innocent babies to be killed mercilessly and actually using public money to pay for it?

It's so sad that abortion has become such an accepted norm in our world. People supportive of abortion repeat that “women have the right to choose” and “it's their body”...but what do they have the right to choose? Whether a child lives or dies? It's not the woman's body; it's the child's who has just as much a right to live as a planned child. This is undoubtedly the next civil rights issue. Just as we had to overcome slavery and the Holocaust, this is something that everyone needs to take a hard look at. Should a child's location, inside vs. outside the womb, determine whether they should be allowed to live? This isn't just something that religious people are "forcing" on the non-religious. It's like saying people should be allowed to kill and steal because some people believe that it's ok, should the laws not be “forced” on them? Should our country uphold no moral code? These mothers and fathers need support, not the guilt that they have killed their child. It hurts everyone. Should the unborn be treated as people? Should blacks, Jews, homosexuals, and all others who have been persecuted be treated as people? We all know the answer. I will stand up for those who cannot defend themselves.

I have to say that this is a health care decision. If there is health care funding for abortion it is a health care issue. Abortion is wrong wrong wrong. It is killing our children. If you do not want to have a baby then do not have sex it is pretty simple. Have your tubes tide or do something like that do not kill your child. It is not your child's fault you had sex and got pregnant. I do not want my tax funds to pay for someone to kill their baby. I am not going to pay for murder. If you want to be a murder than you should go to prison and not passing laws. This is a health care issue. The health of the baby is at steak. I feel that this bill is the worst thing to happen to health care and baby's lives.

I second Sian of MA: the Abortion issue is just a political trick to get the Healthcare Reform Bill rejected. If you don't like abortion, take it up with the courts, don't try to use the Health Reform Bill as a vehicle to prevent abortions.

This issue has just been thrown in by Right wing opponents to muddy the issue enough to get it blocked. Why can't they just fight fair? or better yet, why not do whats right for the people instead of just focusing on winning future elections by blocking everything Obama tries to do?

Abortion shouldn't even be an issue here, and I say that as a prolifer! The conservative right is using abortion to try to stop the bill because they are looking to the future, and see the passing of this bill as crucial to Obama's perceived success. If they stop this bill, they figure Obama is done, and they need not worry about a second term. It might help them win against any dem next term!

The truth of the matter is that not all providers under the public sector will cover elective abortion. Everyone will have the option of choosing a provider who doesn't cover them, therefore assertions that anyone will be "forced" to fund abortions are patently false!

Yes, abortions will be covered under some plans, and tax money will help subsidize premiums, and I understand why prolifers are not happy about that. Realistically, however, I don't think it would significantly reduce the abortion rate if we got them to disallow abortion coverage in all the plans. I think that as long as it's legal, and relatively inexpensive as medical procedures go, where there's a will, women will find a way.

What really disturbs me is the inherent dishonesty in spinning this whole thing so that the average guy on the street, who is probably not able to understand the "legalese" well enough on his own and relies on the interpretations of others, is being led to believe the government is trying to force him to directly fund abortions! The truth is that, if you don't want your money to pay for abortions, you need only choose a plan that doesn't cover them.

Since no tax money is to be spent on abortions (the bill doesn't subsidize them), any covered abortions will be paid for with premiums and copays from the individual. One might argue that if you pay premiums to that company, your money is used to cover abortions, but as I pointed out, one need only choose a provider that doesn't cover abortion in order to avoid that!

It's sad that universal care is being essentially held for ransom by special interest groups, both prochoice and prolife....

To "abortion"

Your statement is very true - If you do not believe in and do not want an abortion, then do not have one - However, I am seeing that this maybe a little off base with the topic. At this point the bill that is in question may or may not be allocating taxes of the US public to fund abortion. With that said I will now say this, if you choose not to get an abortion because you do not believe in it and you will not pay for it (for yourself) then it should not be right for someone else to tell you that your hard earned tax dollars must pay for someone else to get that abortion. Ask yourself this question: If you do not want and would not like to buy a fur coat, should the government be able to tell you that because your neighbor would like one and can not afford it, then you must take your taxes and buy one for them? (I know this is a much lighter subject and topic - but the meaning is there). No one should be able to tell you that you must fund something that you do not believe in. You can not yell "Freedom of choice" - and supply that belief to those who choose to have an abortion, but deny those that do not the choice on whether they want to pay for one or not.
