White House Discerns 'Need for Abortion,' But Some Disagree

Does any rational, compassionate human being honestly believe that a woman pregnant by rape should have absolutely no say whatsoever over whether that pregnancy should continue? McQuade of the Roman Catholic bishops' organization evidently believes this, since she denies there is a need for abortion, "no authentic need for abortion." How would she meet the need of such a woman (which she implies we should do) if she takes away the choice to have an abortion. Her position is monstrously inhumane.

Using the word "need" is loaded and has connontation that a pro lifer would obviously object to and you know it. The decisions you listed are tough, even compelling, but only "needed" in a convenience sake. You don't want to deal with it so abort. Does it hurt the pro choice movement to drop the word "need", does it help the movement more if it is dropped and pro lifers can get on board?

I think Obama is right on finding common ground on this issue. Too long abortion has been painted as an all or nothing, we can either outlaw or abortion or celebrate it as a woman's choice. I think that common ground is pro choicers and pro lifers ignoring the question of right or wrong and working to reduce abortion. Does it need to be illegal if no one is doing it?

Of course there is a NEED for abortions.

Rape, incest, massive birth defects, women too old, women too young, women who are developmentally disabled, probably ten more.

When the "Bishops" decide there is no common ground because there is "no need", then tell the Bishops to "stick it", because they are all men who are supposed to be celibate and therefor SILENT on something they presumably can know nothing whatsoever about.

Mean comment, you say? They deserve it if they're going to let McQuade be the spokesman with nonsense such as above. MEN IN ROBES ARE NOT THE ARBITERS OF WHAT IS A WOMAN'S CHOICE. NOT IN AMERICA. NOT IN IRAN. NOT IN ROME. NOT ANYWHERE.
