Today is my lucky day :)
My mom had promised me to gift a nintendo wii this christmas. But I got it for free, yeee. You have the symbols wrong:
The whore sits on "seven mountains" (Apoc/Rev 17:9). These are not the "seven hills of Rome"; notice that the Bible says seven *mountains*, not hills. The seven hills of Rome are too low to qualify as "mountains"; the tallest one, Quirinal Hill, is only 226 feet above sea level. That's a hill, not a mountain!
Vatican City isn't built on those seven hills of Rome, but on Vatican Hill. They are east of the Tiber River, Vatican Hill is west of the Tiber. In St. John's time, Vatican Hill was a cemetery outside of the city of Rome - the location of the catecombs in which Christians hid during the centuries of persecution. All the early bishops of Rome (the ancient popes) conducted Masses there under Vatican Hill during the first three centuries of the Church.
The woman is arrayed in purple and scarlet (vs 4). The Catholic Church, the Bride of Christ, uses many colors in her liturgy: white - symbolic of purity - is the dominant color, worn by priests and the pope. The others are gold, red, green, violet and rose. Many of these colors have a Scriptural basis for liturgical use, especially purple and scarlet (red). God commanded that the Tabernacle curtains be made of purple and scarlet (Ex 26:1), that the Old Testament priests wear those colors (Ex 28:6, 8, 15) and that scarlet threads be used in priestly rites (Lev. 14:4, 6, 49-52, Num. 19:6). So there is a Biblical basis for priests wearing those colors!
The whore is "decked with gold and precious stones and pearls" (vs 4). Is this the "rich" Vatican? Well, as James Akin points out: "Regardless of what it had in the past, the modern Vatican is not fantastically wealthy. In fact, it actually runs a budget deficit most years and has an annual budget only the size of that of the Archdiocese of Chicago". Pagan Rome was the economic center of the entire Roman empire in St. John's time. Modern secular Rome is not much of an economic center, and little Vatican City is even less so!
The whore holds a cup in her hands (vs 4). This is not a chalice, for the Greek word here is the ordinary term for cup (poterion), not chalice. Second, the overwhelming majority of the Eucharistic chalices Catholics use are not made out of gold, but other materials like brass, silver, glass and clay. The few that are made of gold are in line with God's command to make gold vessels for the Tabernacle/Temple (Ex 25:38-40, 37:23-24, Num 31:50-51, 2 Chr 24:14). Gold liturgical vessels and utensils have been part of the true religion ever since ancient Israel, and since the Catholic Church is the successor to the Israelite religion, it is not surprising that she, too, would use gold vessels.
So the description of the whore of Babylon doesn't really fit the Catholic Church, though it fits pagan Rome perfectly. That's what this passage is talking about.

You are correct that what those people in the Catholic Church (and in many other organizations) is WRONG. It was the choice of the people and not the Catholic Church. Those people made the decision to do harm to other Human Beings. The Catholic Church does not promote, agree with, or hide these people.
I am a member of the Catholic Church and I can personally tell you that I do not agree with what decisions those people made. I can tell you that the Church is doing a lot of training to better protect all people from harm.
The church on the other hand does recognize that every human is tempted by sins and recognizes that those people need council. The church is make changes to prevent and protect people.
Please don't hate the Catholic Church because there are many good loving people in the church that agree with you and are also very offended and hurt by what happened.
I only know of one person on Earth that was without sin (Jesus). We should all agree that we sin and make bad decisions. When our bad decisions harm other human beings then I believe that makes the sin even worse. The reason I used the word believe is because I am not worthy to pass judgement.
I ask for forgiveness everyday because I recognize more each day how I fail to Love my neighbor completely without judgement and etc...
None of us are worthy to Judge others. That is Jesus' Job. Jesus will be able to Judge us and assign a fair judgement. Jesus can see what is in our hearts and minds. We will reap what we sow.
Please don't Judge others because when you do you pass judgement upon yourself.

I think our President should not be meeting in official capacity with the head of any religion. What he does in private is his business, but not on my tax dollar.
I think that this organization was a pedophilia ring and the current pope rose to high position for his work in hiding them. I believe the entire church acted to move these offenders all over the world and so the entire church should be paying the awards that courts are finding for the broken children left in their wake.
That the catholic church can pretend that it has any moral high ground on which to stand is pathetic. The pope deserves no recognition from any government. He is a disgusting and debauched farce, an embarrassment to all that is and was good and holy.
