Mark Sanford's Weird Weeklong Trip: Another GOP Letdown to Pro-Family Movement?

When a political party makes forcing "Biblical family values on all Americans" a major part of their platform, they invite criticism of what Bible authors said. For example, who were "the sons of God" who "mated with the daughters of men?" God got so mad at them and their descendants that he caused the Flood that killed all but survivors on the Ark. The Eden myth says God created only Adam and Eve and everyone descended from them. Do Republican Party leaders realize both versions can't be true? Incest, rape and adultery occur in many fictional Bible families. Why? Ban-Abortionists made "Bible family values" a code phrase used by preachers to get people to give money to the G.O.P. It pretends to want low taxes but billions in tax revenue go to unwed moms stuck with unwanted offspring. It pretends to want "Small Government" but wants Roe v Wade abolished so taxes can rise again as civil courts go back to enforcing church laws that ban abortion. We need a political party that praises abortion as a way to decrease domestic violence and reduce world population before the last of everything is consumed.

Had Governor Sanford taken the time to observe the relationship of President and Mrs. Obama, fidelity, family and spiritual faith might have dictated a different experience for him. " A wise person learns from his/ her mistakes , a wiser person learns from the mistakes and examples of others." Peace and wisdom to the Sanford family.

Gov. Sanford is a very selfish man. He has had no concerns about his wife and his four sons. If he was going to go public with his affair, he should have been honest from the very beginning instead of lying to the American people. His wife should divorce him. I would not want to stay with a man that is clearly in love with his mistress.

I really feel sorry for his wife and sons.

My turn is not coming! This is typical of the religous right--we are sinners and will continue sinning because we can always get more forgiveness. Maybe we should consider not sinning and then the fall back on more forgiveness would not be needed. Stanford is a confirmed Looser and should be dismissed as such. It is too bad for the wife and kids but I suspect the intelligent wife has some idea this was possible.

I really feel sorry for his four sons; moreover, his wife. Politics or not, what kind of father leaves his kids on father's day?? Ah, the power of infidelity.

Sanford has now admitted to the world that he spent the long weekend in Argentina with his girl friend.

What is your feeling about him now?

If this had been Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania, no one would have cared, because he didn't get elected running on a holier than thou platform.

JJH of NJ 7:18PM June 24, 2009

Too bad for his wife, kids ,friends & constituents.Everyone loses .I would enjoin those that see themselves in similar situations to also pray for his return to grace.Maybe it is an good reason to examine what is truly in our hearts with regard to professions of goodwill & the veracity of our deeds -whatever your "flavor".Think twice about piling on ,your turn comes around sooner than you think.

Oops. Another family values republican bites the dust. When will the evangelical wing of the republican party ever learn that a politician will pretend to be evangelical to get their vote.

Phillip Myers of LA 5:16PM June 24, 2009

Nice Seinfeld refernce by the way. You are sure he was seeing his mistress in Argentina. You have proof or are you making accusations based on some preconceived notion you have about politicians, republicans, or people belonging to a family? I for one think this has gotten blown way out of preportion. I don't believe everything I read from the MSM so until I hear his statement I will reserve my judgment on him.

Ymerej of SC 3:39PM June 24, 2009

Ah, but it gets even better. Far from "vacationing alone," the governor was actually spending a week in the company of his Argentinian mistress over Father's Day. But of course the family values crowd can continue to support him. They're every bit as hypocritical as he is.
