"I've now had an additional 40 years to think about it. And I think about the world of my grandchildren. I don't think American children are healthier, safer, and better off today than they were in 1963."

So teachers not leading prayers in the classroom has caused the economic meltdown and the destruction of the middle class? Sorry Newt, but I dont want a baptist teacher leading my child in prayer any more than a baptist parent wants their kid to be forced, be their teacher, to say the Hail Mary or pray the rosary.

You know this is his new "game?"

Mike, his previous divorces and marriage status does not preclude him from conversion or joining the church, it only affects his ability to re-marry within the church and take communion.

How can Newt Gingrich be married to Callista unless a previous, and I presume that at least one of his two previous legal marriages was a valid marriage in the Church, was annulled by the Church.

My point is that the Church, prior to Vatican II, never recognized spiritual divorce. Since Vatican II, the new Protestanized catholics treat the legal marriage and the God created marriage as the same-They are not.

What bishop sanctioned a conversion without this issue being resolved, or has it. Does anyone know?

Was the first confession to your new priest on the subject of vasectomy as noted in your sister Candice's 1996 book, "Accidental Activist" on page 176?

First of all to Rudy: Never mind the mistakes we all make (God does allow for those - yes even divorce and abortion - it's about being truly sorry for what you've done and to sincerely try not to do it again - sin, as it is called, is only God's way of trying to keep us from hurting ourselves and others - He's not trying to ruin your "good time" if you can call it that) and if you can't admit you've made some mistakes then I feel sorry for you. Especially since you find it so humorous. It's impossible for you to be empathetic with anyone. As for Newt -- Congratulations on a great decision for your life. I will tell you what it has done for me. I have been away from the Church (Catholic) for over 40 years. After hearing Newt's story of conversion, I called our local parish priest to make an appointment with him to discuss "coming back into the fold (so to speak)". We all need something to believe in, and, as for those people who believe they should not influence their children as to what faith to follow until they get old enough to make that decision, ask yourself this question: If a child is not exposed to some sort of belief system, how will he know which way to turn when it is his time to choose. He's had no guidance from the two most important people in his life, his parents. It's ok to let a young adult make up his own mind regarding religion -- it's not ok not to let him know what is available for him to believe in.

Congratulations to Mr. Gingrich. I know exactly what he is saying. Attended many churches over the years, nothing fit, until I walked into the Universal Church of the historical faith and now its "OK I get it".

Blessings

If he was only married in a civil ceromony or if his marriages were not valid in the eyes of the Catholic Church (conditions for annulment) then he can recieve the sacrament of Matrimony.

He is a twice divorced man. How could his current marriage be valid? I am reminded of a line from the movie M.A.S.H. when Hawkeye asked Frank Burns "were you always this religious or did you crack up over here?"
