Washington (CNN) -- Some 58 years after President Truman signed a bill proclaiming a National Day of Prayer, Thursday's observance may be one of the last to be officially recognized by Washington. It is on the record that Truman signed the bill procllaiming a National Day of Prayer. Why is this white House trying to change it and say it was started by Bush. Let the record stand.

If you believe in GOD, stand up for him. Stand up for him despite the intentions of a few white wigged politicians from the 18th century. Otherwise, please don't call yourself a Christian.

Many people often say "If you don't like our country, then leave". Well, I say the same for our separation of church and state. If radical Christians (I am a Christian, btw) cannot get over this simple law, then maybe they should start a country where they can make their own dictatorship. THIS country was not founded as a Christian country, it was founded for Religious FREEDOM. That means we do not make people pray. The government stays out of it, as they should. And all of these morons who run around saying "OMG, Obama's taking away our day of prayer" are just that, morons. Thanks to our Constitution, anyone can pray whenever they choose. And yes, that even means in schools, as long it is not being led BY the school, a government agency. Jeez, people... get a grip on reality and try a little to remember all of our brothers who died for our FREEDOMS, not so we can run a dictatorship!

Unfortunately Christians in the U.S. do not realize nor accept that not everyone believes as they do. The NDP excludes nonChristians and nontheists, just do some research. I thank Pres. Obama for not hosting a religious event at the seat of the United States government. The government is not to promote any religion. I am disappointed with Pres. Obama for making a declaration for a national day of prayer. May your NDP be filled with Reason.

The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, like the river of water He turn it wherever He wishes. that the prayer to pray for the President of United State and all the leaver of the world, know that God will will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Well, I'm not American; I'm Ghanaian.

When i see and hear such things happening about people and groups trying to take God out of our society, i know the end is near.

As to how near, i don't know.

This calls for prayer. They want to take our power away, take what reminds us of God away, and push us into the minority.

You know, preparing the way for the anti-Christ!

Obama's handling of this doesn't surprise me a bit. He hasn't really shown a powerful support of Israel and now doesn't seriously support a day of prayer. I wonder why that is? I sincerely doubt his belief in God - more like Allah. I agree, if the Muslims wanted anything, it would be approved in the name of not offending a non-christian faith group. God help this country.

This nation was founded by Godly people. If obama can back a muslim day of prayer he can do the same for A Christian day of pray. By no means is he godly enough not to need prayer.

Believing that "my way or the highway" is very frustrating to many people. Americans should have the right to Pray anytime, anywhere, any place. To take away a day of Prayer Observation, is like re writing History. WHY? If you don't believe in God, why should you care? If you do believe in God, stand up and Pray. If you don't want God in School, Politics, on money....well don't go to school, stay out of politics and give up money. This Country was founded on God and the right to Religious Freedom. Why take that away? The Native Americans treated the Earth as a gift from above, recognizing its value, why can't we? We try to right wrongs,(Native Americans, Slavery, Korea,Japan, Tuskegee Airmen, etc.) why not give this Country back the right to Observe God, Pray in School, and to those that oppose allow them the right to do so without taking our right! If you don't believe in God; OK deal with it. Forcing the rest of us to follow your suite is wrong. And Prayerfully, I ask that your agenda be subdued and out of the mainstream USA. Let Us Move On As A Country To Be Better.

why are any of you surprised by this? We have a president who doesn't really bow his head with sincerity during any public prayers, doesn't put his hand over his heart during the national anthem, and doesn't wear his flag pin to show his support of our troops, obviouslsy he has his own agenda and isn't praying to ask for guidance...
