We are bound by the Scriptures from speaking evil of our leaders: "My son, fear thou the Lord and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:" Proverbs 24:21

No Christian would speak evil of ex President Bush or President Obama. We may not like their policies, but we do not speak evil of our leaders. For the Scriptures teach us:

"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:" Romans 13:1-3

That's "scripture" quotes, not "scriture".

No one imagines the Jewish people to be the most ancient civilization on earth, or the first to have a "code of law". But that does not change the fact that the Judeo/Christian culture played a major, foundational role in the founding of our country.

While America does not remotely resemble its former self today, in the beginning, our society was greatly influenced by the Bible and Christian teaching/values. It's a fact; deal with it.

Or perhaps we should believe that the many scriture quotes inscribed, in stone, on government buildings in D.C. are from Hammarabi and the Romans.

ENH of TX is ignorant of legal history as well as the history of this country.

The Jewish people are johnnies come lately to the development of legal codes. Theirs goes back only about 2500 years to the time of the Babylonian exile. Hammurabi's code is much, much older than that.

The Roman Republic was based on the rule of law, well before there was a Christian religion, and developed their conception of law independent of the Jewish faith.

Further the fundamentals of our legal code go back to the British common law, which has its basic roots in Celtic and Saxon laws that were in place before Christianity was ever imposed on the British Isles.

It is a fundamental blunder to equate the Religious Right, and/or Christian fundamentalists, with the whole of the Christian religion. It is a minority portion of the Christian religion, at best.

that the "wolves in clerics clothing" get back to teaching the eternal love of the risen Christ. Instead the bigots use their pulpits as conduits for political agendas. Shame on them all. Esp. Robertson the way he prognosticates the will of The Almighty, as if he's got a red phone direct to God. Blasphemy I say!

It's about time that the Christian Taliban learns how to be followers of Christ instead of the ignorant, bigoted racists that they so casually potray themselves as.

OneOfTheWatchers of CO 9:22PM April 20, 2009

Your ignorance of Christianity is exceeded only by your lack of knowledge of our country's history. Begining with the Mayflower Compact, God was in the picture: "Having undertaken, for the Glory of God and advancement of the Christian Faith and Honour of our King and Country, a Voyage to plant the First Colony in the Northern Parts of Virginia, do by these presents solemnly and mutually in the presence of God and one of another, Covenant and Combine ourselves together into a Civil Body Politic, for our better ordering and preservation and furtherance of the ends aforesaid; and by virtue hereof to enact, constitute and frame such just and equal Laws, Ordinances, Acts, Constitutions and Offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the general good of the Colony.."

Our system of government is based on the Rule of Law. This concept can be traced back to Hebrew law and the Ten Commandments. Together with the concept of unalienable rights from God, these concepts helped ensure a way of life that respected the dignity of every individual.

For the record-only Roman Catholics have a pontiff-and he is elected by men who were appointed to the position of Cardinal by his predecessors.

Gingrich and the rest of the GOP bozos need to listen up... I am a lifelong republican who detests that our once proud party has been taken over by these holier than thou "Christians". Hey, you morons, we're not electing the friekin pontif, we're electing representatives and leaders for our secular government. Why in the hell would you think we want to hear you bloviate about your faith or values, much less Jesus? You can believe monkey's fly out of your butt each night to hold the moon aloft as long as you get us our of Iran, reduce the federal bugdet, do something about the criminal IRS, and bring a bit of dignity and respect to the White House. I will never again vote for any republican who opens up his fat mouth about religion... it has no place in running our country!

The reason that John McCain got all of those white evangelical votes is because, alas, those same voters were terrified of having a black president.
