It's become so commonplace for U.S. Roman Catholic bishops to publicly attack Democratic politicians (think Barack Obama, Kathleen Sebelius, John Kerry) that I was struck by this newscast last night from Evansville, Ind., about the local bishop boycotting Michael Steele's speech at a big fundraising dinner for the group Vanderburgh County Right to Life. Bishop Gerard Gettelfinger skipped Steele's speech because of the RNC chair's remarks on abortion in a recent GQ interview, which some interpreted as supportive of abortion rights.
