Should a Muslim Be Put in Charge of Public Diplomacy?

Mansoor Ijaz's assertion that, unless we appoint a muslim in a "decision-making" cabinet post, we will make the U.S. more vulnerable to terrorism is: (a) an implicit justification for those who have terrorized the U.S. previously (presumably because a non-muslim was calling the shots and they did not like those shots - so therefore, what else could they do but bomb, kidnap and kill?); (b) em implication that only someone who worships in the same way that they do can make the "right" decisions to protect the country; and (c) is, as the previous post states, none other than reverse discrimination.

What would Mansoor Ijaz say if a Jewish Person was appointed to be the nation's top public diplomat. Perish the thought that someone who prays only three and not five times a day should have such responsibility!

Outrageous!

No one should ever be hired based on their religion or ethnic background. That would be reverse discrimination.

But if a person is highly qualified and has proven a capacity to communicate well and persuade on issues relevant to foreign affairs in the muslim world, then why not?

We need effective role players who are unquestionably loyal to this country and administration, and who respect the needs and views of muslims. People always respond best to those who appreciate their customs and dreams for their people. It doesn't have to be a muslim - but can be if the right person is found.

Bush people were unsuccessful because they did not LIKE or RESPECT muslims, and this disdain was evident.

Our best chance to heal is now.
