Does the economic stimulus bill that President Obama is trying to get through Congress have a spiritual side?

Yes, apparently. The liberal Roman Catholic group Catholics United is running faith-based ads on Christian Radio in Pennsylvania and Ohio tomorrow in an attempt to build pressure on Republican Sens. Arlen Specter and George Voinovich to support the stimulus package. Listen to the Voinovich version of the ad—called "Do the Right Thing"—here.

Here's the script for the Specter ad:

What are you praying for? What's on your heart?

I am praying for my family during this economic crisis.

Too many of us are asking: "How long will I be able to keep my job? How am I going to pay rent this month? Are my kids going to have a better future?"

As Christians, we can do better. In Acts, chapter 4 verse 34, Luke states that in the early Christian communities "there was no needy person among them."

President Obama has a plan to help struggling families by creating jobs. And we need it now more than ever.

Help make it happen. Call Senator Specter and ask him to do the right thing... support the President's job program.

Will you join us today? Call Senator Specter at 866-544-7573, that's 866-544-7573.

Paid for by Catholics United.

"Jesus calls us to care for the least among us," Catholics United Executive Director Chris Korzen said in a statement about the ad. "That means looking out for our neighbors who are losing their homes, those who are unemployed, and all those who are suffering. We need this legislation to pass .... It's about moral responsibility."

From their website,

In 2005, the members of the Catholic Voting Project decided to incorporate formally as Catholics United. Catholics United is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization. Donations are not tax-deductible.

In my opition, they should not be allowed to include Catholic in their name. Donations are NOT deductible because it is a political campaigning organization and is not looking out for the rights of Catholics. Very misleading.

What????? Get the facts - search +DeMint +stimulus +faith

This stimulus is a direct attack on people of faith. "Democrats using an economic stimulus bill to promote discrimination,” said Senator DeMint. “Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for siding with the ACLU over millions of students of faith. These students simply want equal access to public facilities, which is their constitutional right. This hostility toward religion must end. Those who voted to for this discrimination are standing in the schoolhouse door to deny people of faith from entering any campus building renovated by this bill.

Please sign petition to support Sen. DeMint who is opposing the stimulus plan. He will take this petition to the floor.

Stand up for your faith!

Weighing in just to have a few positive comments on your page. The fear of others, personal greed without accountability and use of faith to hit people over the head, is what has led us into a failed economy and two failed wars - it is time to move away from belief in policies that have failed us so miserably - and in to policies where we look at the numbers, we look at what works, and we try something new. The stimulus plan is a start - and should be started!
