Future war plans now largely focused on Afghan forces.


The fate of the U.S. in Afghanistan is directly linked to the quality and number of Afghan forces--not the length of time American troops stay there, senior Pentagon officials said Tuesday.

House Armed Services Committee members questioned Pentagon officials about issues like defeating the Taliban, securing cities and villages, and finally thwarting the country's opium industry, and how best to detain battlefield prisoners.
