Obama Administration Rules Out Military Action in Syria

White House officials say there is evidence a U.S. military mission would cause a bloody sectarian civil war.

U.S. military intervention in Syria appears unlikely-at least for now. Obama administration officials and lawmakers say there is evidence a U.S. military mission in Syria might cause a bloody sectarian civil war, while also providing a boost to al Qaeda.

"At this point, we do not believe that the further militarization of the situation is the best course," senior State Department officials said Thursday.
