Obama, Romney Will Spend Summer Vying for Voter Attention
Tweet Share on Facebook June 15, 2012 CommentAs hard as it may be to believe, summertime often is the silliest of political seasons. That's because most voters turn off their televisions and fire up their barbeques. It's also a stressful time for politicians who try and keep the press at bay with a steady drip of minor news items, such as web advertisements or battleground office announcements.

Poll: Romney Takes Lead in North Carolina
Tweet Share on Facebook June 12, 2012 CommentRepublican presidential contender Mitt Romney has taken the lead over President Obama in the swing state of North Carolina, according to a new poll, in what could be an electoral canary in the coal mine for the incumbent Democrat's campaign.
Romney, who had trailed Obama in a similar survey in April, now tops him 48 percent to 46 percent, according to Public Policy Polling.
"Romney's erased what was a 51 to 38 lead for Obama with independents and taken a 42 to 41 lead with that voting group," writes Tom Jensen, PPP's polling director, in a statement accompanying the survey results. "He's also increased his share of the Democratic vote from 15 percent to 20 percent, suggesting he's convincing some more conservative voters within the party to cross over."

Obama Says Private Sector 'Doing Fine'; GOP Jumps on Gaffe
Tweet Share on Facebook June 8, 2012 CommentPresident Obama's campaign has been plagued in recent weeks by high-profile supporters like former President Bill Clinton and Newark Mayor Cory Booker undermining his message. On Friday, it was the president himself putting his foot in his mouth.
"The private sector is doing fine," he said during a press conference with reporters. Obama was attempting to explain how Europe's economic crisis related to the U.S. economy and what lessons he hoped we could learn from the eurozone's handling of it.
But his statement--made at a time when the economy is still struggling to recover and unemployment remains above 8 percent--will likely strike many as tone deaf.

Romney: Employees Should Know Political Implications of Their Votes
Tweet Share on Facebook June 6, 2012 CommentMitt Romney is hoping business owners will "make it very clear" to their employees what their political views are and how the November election results could impact their jobs.
At least that's what he told about 100,000 members of the National Federation of Independent Businesses during a Wednesday tele-townhall.
"I hope you make it very clear to your employees what you believe is in the best interest of your enterprise and therefore their job and their future in the upcoming elections," the Republican presidential nominee said. "And whether you agree with me or you agree with President Obama, or whatever your political view, I hope you pass those along to your employees."

National Organization of Marriage Says Gay Marriage Endorsement Will Be Obama's Downfall
Tweet Share on Facebook June 6, 2012 CommentGay marriage opponents predict President Barack Obama's public endorsement of same-sex marriage will hurt his re-election chances and pledge to push the issue in key swing states. Officials at the National Organization for Marriage, a political group that helps fund state-based campaigns against gay marriage, had already denounced the president's position and said Tuesday they are confident their efforts will help ensure a victory for Republican nominee Mitt Romney.
"I believe that this will lead to President Obama being a one-term president," said NOM president Brian Brown, during a call with reporters. "If you look at key swing states—Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, Iowa—those are all states where you had overwhelming majorities vote to protect marriage, and I think that we are going to focus on making very clear that this is a key distinction obviously."
