One Week To Go In Iowa

December 27, 2011 RSS Feed Print

The Iowa caucuses are one week away and the outcome is still very much in doubt.

A barrage of negative ads launched against former House Speaker Newt Gingrich seems to have had the desired effect of piercing his front-runner bubble. Meanwhile, media scrutiny of newsletters that bear Ron Paul's name (which he has said were written by others and which he disavows) may erode some of the sheen from the long-time Texas congressman.

Meanwhile, former Massachussetts governor Mitt Romney continues his steady campaign, winning the endorsement of the Des Moines Register and debuting a new ad today touting his fiscal bona fides.

The surprise buzz out of Iowa today is that former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum is creeping up in the polls.

Equally surprising, perhaps, is the 10-day weather forecast for Des Moines which calls for balmy mid-50 temperatures on the weekend and a sunny, 40-ish day for the January 3 caucuses, with nary a snowflake in sight—yet.
