Obama Tries to Upstage GOP Primaries—Again

April 3, 2012 RSS Feed Print

President Obama will try to upstage his Republican rivals again Tuesday when he delivers an economic speech in Washington at the same time voters will be casting ballots in GOP presidential primaries in Wisconsin, Maryland and Washington, D.C.

White House officials say Obama will talk about the need for tax fairness and renew his argument that millionaires should have to pay more. He will condemn a House Republican budget plan as a "Trojan horse" and "thinly-veiled social Darwinism" that would hurt working families, according to White House officials.

Obama has tried, with some success, to upstage the GOP candidates before. In March, after shutting out the media for months, he held a news conference on the same day as Super Tuesday, when several key GOP primaries occurred.

GOP front-runner Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, is expected to continue his march to the GOP nomination with wins in Maryland, Washington, D.C. and probably Wisconsin. Romney has been intensifying his attacks on Obama, and the Obama re-election campaign has been responding with increasing bite.

Isn't "social darwinism", when talking about an economy, also called "capitalism"? I guess if it the plan does not include forced redistribution of wealth it must be evil as far as Obama is concerned.

Cute he will criticize the Republicans for not adderssing the "needs" of the people while his own proposal calls for a 4h year of $1.3trillion deficits. How that serves the needs of the people is beyond me ...except maybe the idea of getting something for nothing that is very appealing to many... The old quote if you rob peter to pay paul you can always count on Pauls vote. Obama is counting on Pauls vote..
