Despite Campaign Challenges, Newt Gingrich Won't Step Down

Washington veterans who have worked closely with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in the past predict that endorsements of rival Mitt Romney will only make Gingrich more stubborn about staying in the GOP presidential contest.

"Newt would be smart to get out of the race but he won't do that right now," says a former adviser to a Republican president who has known Gingrich for three decades. "The more people encourage him to get off the trail, the more he will thumb his nose at them and keep running."

Gingrich watchers predict the same defiant reaction from Gingrich in the wake of billionaire Donald Trump's endorsement of Romney Thursday.

Another sign of Gingrich's stubbornness came with the announcement that his campaign will ask the Florida Republican Party to change the state's winner-take-all allocation of nominating delegates to a proportional system. The Republican National Committee has said that the allocation by early primary states such as Florida should be proportional, but the Florida GOP broke that rule. Romney won the primary this week. A proportional system would at least give Gingrich a few delegates of the 50 awarded. Florida Republican officials, however, say they won't make the change.

Long-time GOP strategists predict that Gingrich also will step up his effort to define himself as the thoughtful, bold conservative in the race with a series of speeches, interviews, ads and policy papers.

But many who have worked with Gingrich in the past say the former House speaker seems incapable of controlling his worst tendencies, such as his inability to stay on message, his lack of discipline, and his tendency to shoot from the hip.

"He needs a seven-second pause button," says a senior GOP strategist.

Despite Campaign Challenges, Newt Gingrich Won't Step Down. Why? What does Newt Gingrich hope to accomplish by staying in the race? No one likes him, he can't beat Obama, his current wife is a woman of ill repute, and he is a man with no morals and a history of bad ethical behavior. The only reason that anyone would vote for him is because they are dumb enough to to buy into the false belief that Gingrich is the "anti-Romney". In reality, Gingrich is much like Romney in that neither man can be taken on his word, and both men are serial flip-floppers without a viable plan for our country.

Newt will say anything to get a vote, and panders to his audience everywhere he goes, as he did in Florida with dumb talk of a base on the moon. Also, anyone who actually thinks that this guy represents the Tea Party does not have a clue as to what the Tea Party is about, and should stop associating himself/herself with a limited government movement that began during Ron Paul's last campaign in 2008. There is nothing about Newt Gingrich that can be called "Tea Party", as there is nothing about Romney or Santorum either. All three represent the status quo and all three cannot beat Obama regardless of what the MSM is saying. If we elect Romney, Gingrich, or Santorum, it will be 1996 all over again when Bob Dole was trounced by the incumbent Bill Clinton. Now, even though Obama is not quite Bill Clinton, a candidate like Romney or Gingrich who is rejected by 75% of his own party will not beat an incumbent president, no matter how bad he may be.

So Gingrich should just exit the presidential race before he completely tarnishes what little remains of a once respectable Republican Party.

Go Newt Go!

Maybe it is Newt that should run/stat a third party -

The Constitutional Conservative Party! Limited government, out of our lives and out of our businesses, protect the country and ensure equal opportunity and return the power back to the states and the people. Big centralized government was never the intent, nor was it put into place to take care of you or anyone else.

Screw the GOP they are as bad as the libs.

I for one am tired of the same old retreads in both parties, you believe in the Constitution and the intent of the Founding Fathers or you don’t. As it stands today most Dems don’t and most of the GOP doesn’t either, it’s all about “what’s in it for me?”
