Obama To Tout Ending Of The War In Iraq

December 12, 2011 RSS Feed Print

President Obama is planning a big week of commemorations of the end of the Iraq war, which his aides say is one of the biggest accomplishments of his presidency.

He has ordered all combat troops out of that country by year's end, fulfilling a campaign promise he made in 2008.

Democratic strategists say this will cement his support among anti-war Democrats and energize such voters on his behalf as he gears up his 2012 re-election campaign.

To mark the withdrawal, Obama is scheduled to meet today at the White House with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

Tomorrow, Obama is to grant interviews with local television anchors from across the country about ending the Iraq war and other issues.

On Wednesday, the president and first lady Michelle Obama will address the troops at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. "The president will speak about the enormous sacrifices and achievements of the brave Americans who served in the Iraq war," said a White House spokesman, "and he will speak about the extraordinary milestone of bringing the war in Iraq to an end."

leave it up to the nutty neocons.their now trying to blame pres. obama for the withdrawl, when they fail to acknowledge that it was their man, former president bush, who in 2007 signed the withdrawl agreement.

it would nice if just once they owned to their actions.

End of the war - for who?

While the troops will be leaving Iraq soon, they'll most likely be diverted to Iran because of the growing tensions and saber rattling being done by the Obama administration and Israel.

With both the U.S. and Israel carrying out illegal sabotage operations in Iran, it will only be a matter of time before we are dragged into a war with Iran.
