Tweet Share on Facebook September 20, 2011 Comment (1)The first reaction among liberals, at least as reported in the media, was relief and support for President Obama's latest deficit-reduction plan because it called for higher taxes on the rich and on big corporations, and didn't increase the eligibility age for Medicare.

Obama Tacks to the Left
Tweet Share on Facebook September 19, 2011 Comment (2)President Obama's new push for a minimum tax on millionaires is a populist gambit designed to gain support from liberals and independent voters who want him to confront the rich. GOP Aims to Scorch Obama Over Solyndra
Tweet Share on Facebook September 16, 2011 Comment (7)The Republicans are jumping on what media pundits are calling "the Solyndra scandal," and that could be a problem for President Obama. If the issue sticks, it could eliminate an argument that the Democrats were prepared to make in the 2012 campaign--that the Obama administration has been scandal-free. At a minimum, it could play into GOP claims that the administration is riddled with "crony capitalism."

Census Report Spells Trouble For Obama
Tweet Share on Facebook September 14, 2011 Comment (4)The Census Bureau's latest report on the overall poverty rate is making headlines, but the more important political story is getting less media attention than it deserves. Buried in the data is the disclosure that three key constituencies that supported President Obama in 2008 — African Americans, Latinos, and women — are now suffering some of the worst poverty rates in the country. If they turn against Obama because of their economic plight, his re-election prospects will be dim.
