Netflix's "House of Cards" will return Feb. 14, 2014, because nothing says romance like a slimy, murdering politician, his ruthless, prickly wife, and the snotty young reporter he used to sleep with, who is now on a quest to destroy his career. Even with a show as dark and cynical as "House of Cards," you've got to admit, Netflix has a sense of humor. A new season of the political drama may be the best/worst Valentine's Day present ever.
According to the Netflix statement announcing the premiere, political power couple Rep. Francis Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and his wife Claire (Robin Wright) will face all the usual challenges to their ascension: meddling reporters, political allies asking for favors, and personal crises. Kate Mara, Constance Zimmer, Kristen Connolly, Michel Gill and Mahershala Ali are among the Season 1 cast members returning in February. Netflix again will release the entire 13 episode season at once for subscribers to stream online.
Netflix has also released a mysterious if disappointing trailer for Season 2, with Claire Underwood (Wright) smoking a cigarette all by her lonesome. Where's Frank? Why aren't they sharing the cigarette together at their windowsill, as per their Season 1 ritual? We'll have to wait until Feb. 14 to find out.
