George Zimmerman Arrested for Domestic Violence

George Zimmerman arrested after deputies respond to disturbance call.

Former neighborhood watchman, George Zimmerman was arrested Monday and taken into custody at Seminole County Jail in Florida.

The Orlando Sentinel reported Zimmerman's arrest Monday after he was accused of assaulting a girlfriend WESH TV reports. Deputies arrested Zimmerman after a "disturbance call" was made ABC News said. Authorities have revealed few details on the case.

An official with the Seminole County Sheriff's Department told USA Today "he (Zimmerman) is in custody," and that the booking officer was still in the middle of filing his report. The sheriff's department said they would release the arrest report and 911 call as soon as they are available.

Zimmerman's altercation comes after a previous run-in with the law in September where he was accused of threatening his estranged wife and her father with a gun. AP News also reports Zimmerman having been pulled over for speeding two times since July.

Zimmerman received national media attention during his trial for the murder of 17-year-old African-American Trayvon Martin. In July Zimmerman was acquitted, his defense successfully arguing he had acted in self defense.
