The photographs of Prince William and Kate Middleton cradling George leaked online a few hours before their expected release Monday afternoon. The pictures were taken earlier this month by Michael Middleton, Kate's father, in the garden of the Middleton family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire, outside of London. In the second of the two shots, the three royals are joined by Kate and William's cocker spaniel Lupo and the Middletons' golden retriever Tilly.

With the first official portrait of the newest heir to the British throne, the Duke and Duchess broke tradition by shooting the informal pictures -- which resemble the family pictures of any typical family -- rather than using a professional photographer in a royal residence. In a Monday interview with CNN, William hinted that he and Kate would be taking an "independent" approach to parenthood.

"We've all grown up ... differently to other generations. And I very much feel if I can do it myself I want to do it myself," he said.

In the interview, William's first since George's July 22 birth, William also called his son a "little bit of a rascal," bragged about changing "the first nappy," and described what it felt like to be a new father.

"I think the last few weeks for me have been just a very different emotional experience. Something I never thought I would feel myself," he said. "And I find, again it's only been a short period, but a lot of things affect me differently now."
