It's hard to deny that Robert Downey Jr. deserves to be on top of Forbes's list of highest paid actors. He followed up 2012's "The Avengers," the third highest grossing film of all time, with this summer's "Iron Man 3," the second biggest opening in Hollywood history. But some of the other actors on the list aren't exactly delivering what their paycheck promises. Here is a look at what Hollywood's highest paid actors are earning versus what their movies made in 2012, using data from Box Office Mojo.

Earnings: $75 million
What his movies made: $1.5 billion ("The Avengers")
In addition to the 2012 mega-hit "The Avengers," Downey has carried the "Iron Man" franchise, with the third installment making over $1 billion worldwide this summer.
Earnings: $60 million
What his movies made: $565 million ("The Vow," "21 Jump Street," "Magic Mike")
Not just a pretty face, Tatum proved he could carry a movie, particularly with "Magic Mike," which earned nearly $170 million on its $7 million budget
Earnings: $55 million
What his movies made: $471 million ("Rise of the Guardians," "Les Miserables")
Jackman is as versatile as they come as he follows up his turn in the musical "Les Miserables" with action film "The Wolverine," which earned $55 million over its opening weekend.
Earnings: $52 million
What his movies made: $646 million ("Contraband," "Ted")
In addition to delivering "Ted," the surprise hit of 2012, Wahlberg has also gotten more involved behind the scenes, serving as a producer on a number of movies headed to theaters.

While 2012 was a slow year for the wrestler-cum-action-star, 2013 been huge for Johnson, with "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," "Pain & Gain" and "Fast & Furious 6" already out in theaters.

Usually a leading man, DiCaprio took a supporting role in the Oscar winning "Django Unchained." But he's gotten right back to front-and-center with this summer's "Great Gatsby" and the upcoming "The Wolf of Wall Street."
Earnings: $37 million
What his movie made: $206 million ("Hotel Transylvania," "That's My Boy")
The voice work he did in "Hotel Transylvania" aside, 2012 was an off year for Sandler, with "That's My Boy" bombing. This summer's "Grown Ups 2" hasn't approached the success of the 2010 original either.
Earnings: $35 million
What his movies made: $255 million ("Rock of Ages," "Jack Reacher")
"Rock of Ages" was a dud, but with "Jack Reacher" Cruise proved he can still deliver – at least overseas, where it made most of its money.
Earnings: $33 million
What his movies made: $370 million ("Safe House," "Flight")
Both of Washington's 2012 films were certifiable hits, with "Flight" earning him an Oscar nomination.
Earnings: $32 million
What his movies made: $2.1 billion ("The Grey," "Wrath of Titans," "Battleship," "Taken," "The Dark Knight Rises")
Neeson's busy 2012 was combination of hits and misses, with "Dark Knight Rises," in which he had a minor role, greatly outperforming the others.
