Chicago is the most pest-infested city in the United States, according to a new survey released by pest-control company Orkin.
The city topped the country in treatments for ants, bedbugs, rodents and spiders, according to the company, which has more than 400 offices in the United States. Atlanta had the most treatment requests for mosquitoes, Los Angeles is the most cockroach- and termite-ridden and Washington, D.C. had the most treatments for ticks.
After Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Miami/Fort Lauderdale and Washington, D.C. round out the top five most pest-ridden cities.
A representative for the company says that it's hard to say why any specific city attracts certain pests, but that Chicago's cold climate may play a small part in why the company performed so many extermination treatments there.
"Everything plays a part—climate certainly plays a major part," Orkin's Addy Apesos. "With old buildings, it's not pest-specific, but rodents are more likely to go into old buildings because they may not be as well-sealed."
