There are far too many folks having a great time at Jazz Fest, Mardi Gras, Crawfish Festival, Oyster, Strawberry, Petroleum, Timber and Sicilian festivals, NCAA national championships, Super Bowls, NBA championships, movie productions, reality shows, cooking shows, LSU games, and hunting and fishing trips. Funny how they don't seem to mind.
Yes, we have some young ganstas, most often in the metro-New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Shreveport housing development areas, with a high rate of killing each other. It breaks our hearts, but what can you do, but put the survivors in prison and allow decent, law-abiding folks to own and carry firearms. But, Louisiana is not for the faint of heart, that is true.
For the rest of y'all, Bienvenue!

Gee! The most peaceful states are Vermont,Maine and New Hampshire, all three allow law abiding citizens to own and carry guns, in Vermont you do not even need a permit to carry concealed. I wonder what these three states could possibly have in common that makes them so safe???

"the quarterS" ??? Did you mean the Quarter, as in French Quarter? Don't get out of Florida much do you? You obviously haven't spent much time with Cajuns, the ones I've spent time with were very cool, down to earth, friendly and fun. Spent three weeks there and loved every minute of it, hope to be back soon. And btw, much of the violence in Louisiana happens in the bigger cities there. Probably similar to the crime in Florida.

Checked their website. The study is bogus. First it does not compare apples to apples. You cannot compare New Orleans to Bangor (only cities selected were used in the study). New Orleans is a city with high poverty (mostly due to poor adminitration), high in minorities, high in transient population, and corruption institutionalized (even on the police force) over centuries. In Bangor Maine the big news is that someone found a caribou in their back yard. If the study would consider the rest of the state of Louisiana their statistics would be diluted in such a way that the study would be insignificant. Now being that New Orleans has the majority of their population being black, does this means that blacks are more violent than other ethnic groups? Unfair, isn't it?
I sure hope these people are not getting any government funding. Or they would owe us the money back.

So, we have the poorest states, with the most racial tension, large groups of Latinos, Blacks & Crackers all in the same area, most often cornered in the quarters, with EASY access to guns, and a largely white police force. Golly Beaver, I don't know WHY they fight like that either. It's the heat, Wally, that's all, Right? Oh & corporal punishment is less issue than basic needs, People, get a frigging grip! have you been in the quarters? THEY SUCK, south side of Chicago is bad (living conditions) but it's great next to the conditions that exist here, it's beverly hills. Y'all think Cajuns & Crackers are low class scum, but, They are the WHITE ruling class in their area, and they get "the best", the area has. Ain't that a hoot!
As for the peaceful ones "Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire", so after its warm enough to do anything but drink to excess & go home via snowmobile. That leaves what 2-3 weeks of the year to go? Skewed reasoning, different demographics, Non Sequitur.

Bet that at least 4 of those states are among the 5 states with the lowest percent of minority residents as well...go figure! I have been to Maine, Minnesota, and NH multiple times, and felt like I was in a bowl of milk. Cannot imagine Vermont being much different.

Majority of Most Violent States still legally allow students K-12 to be beaten with wooden paddles in public schools to inflict Pain as Punishment/Discipline while protecting school employees from criminal/civil action when students are injured, leaving families no legal remedy!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vt4v7KsFi8
The U.S. Supreme Court continually Fails to Protect Children's Constitutional Rights Under the Guise of States' Rights! Politicians Politicize Childrens' human/constitutional/civil rights in taxpayer funded schools by maintaining discriminatory laws that allow Teacher Bullying/beatings/spankings/paddlings/pain as punishment of students K-12, including autistic/disabled/special needs students, known as School Corporal Punishment, with no safety standards to protect students from injuries such as training, testing and certification required to cut hair. School Corporal Punishment is discriminatorily applied to boys, minority, disabled and low-income students. Schoolchildren in the United States are treated differently based on where they live! Some states such as TN do not require parental consent or notification for students to be paddled! School Corporal Punishment is Prohibited in Nashville Schools and Schools in 31 U.S. States, yet 2/3 of TN students attend "Paddling Schools"! School teachers, coaches and administrators are protected from criminal/civil action by "Teacher Immunity Laws" when students are injured, leaving families no legal remedy! School Corporal Punishment is Unconstitutional! The U.S. Supreme Court declines to hear school corporal punishment appeals!
Jared Abrams, Hollywood Filmmaker who filmed Documentary "The Board of Education", has created a Petition at Change.org to raise awareness of and End Corporal Punishment in Public Schools.

La Tiger what does New Orleans being democrat have anything to do with, well anything. Aren't the top three peaceful states all blue ? I guess I fail to see your point with that remark.
Baton Rouge isn't that far behind New Orleans in terms of violence. Louisiana really needs to focus on education and getting people to work.
I also don't understand the "firearms availability" comments.
Whatof LA4:29PM May 07, 2012
More than simply Orleans Parish is the problem, one could cut the violent crime rate of all Louisiana in half by simply evacuating all the residents of merely those voting precincts of and contiguous to present and former public housing projects in orleans Parish alone.
HUD has ruined huge swathes of this country's major cities.
The Trayvon protesters actually owe the rest of America an apology for their forty year crime spree
LA Patriotof LA3:52PM May 07, 2012
If you take New Orleans out, you'd have a very different result for Louisiana. That is where your murders, incarceration rates, and violent crime exist. It also happens to be the only strongly Democratic parish in the state.
Also, what does "firearms availability" have to do with anything? The much more peaceful parishes have laxer gun laws for legal gun owners. Yet, their crime rates are negligible. Doesn't sound very "nonpartisan" to me.
