Study: Southerners More Willing to Use Violence to Protect Country

Bear in mind diversity takes on different forms between the south, northeast and midwest.

In the north, there is more of a blend of ethnic, religious and racial diversity. However, this largely is limited within and around the urban demographic. While on the other hand, affluent suburbs and rural areas are typically overwhelmingly white and quiet homogeneous.

Diversity in the south on the other hand is more limited between white and black and until recently Hispanic. But unlike the north, it isn't uncommon for blacks in particular to live outside the urban demographic in significant numbers.

So I don't entirely agree with the paragraph on how southern whites aren't as exposed as northerners. The kind and proportions is what is different.

I pity a group of people that would not use anything at their disposal to defend their country. This study makes me even more proud to be from the South.

I'm originally from "southern" Wyoming, does that count?

Our family has served in all branches of the armed forces. Our family currently has Dems, Repubs, Indies, gays, straights, married, divorced, students, graduates, workers, un-employed looking for work, old, young, expecting mothers, expecting fathers, ex-wives, ex-husbands, crazy uncles in jail, crazy cousins who should be in jail, writers/authors, rock stars, movie stars, lawyers, doctors, farmers, ranchers, bikers, cowboys, rodeo stars, oil field trash and truckers.

In sort, our family represents much of a cross section of the American experience, and the one thing we all have in common - We show up when family is in need. We excuse and forgive, we make "tolorence and respect" our call. We accept each other unconditionally.

If you intend to do us harm, we all show up.

My wish for America is we stop the badgering amongst ourselves, and start to accurately identify the real enemy out there and then give us a clear line of fire.

Wolves do not defend the den standing at its door, they defend it by going on the hunt.

Sounds like South Dakota to me. Don't forget the high level of hypocrisy in our belief system (probably shared with our southern honor ideology adherents). For instance we love chest thumping about we balance our budget in SD, omitting the fact that we get $1.57 back from the hated federal government for every $1.00 we send off.

I'm a Texan, born and raised and I don't believe I love OUR country more than you. However, I believe you would allow more to befall OUR country before you acted.

Southern hospitality is tolerance. I fully accept that there are those out there who believe differently than I...and so long as they let me be, with a wave and a nod I will send them on their merry way. Only when our way of life is threatened do we become intolerant. These "theoretical terrorists" that you speak of seek to destroy our way of life, not our honor...and that includes the "tolerant North". So while you casually stroll around taking polls and preaching understanding...there are those of us who understand the necessity of meeting violence with violence. Why should I show respect to someone who gives me none. You may believe that makes you a better man...a smarter man...a tolerant man. But I believe you show weakness to those who don't value your sissy "we are the world" crap and therefore invite more violence to your doorstep.

Lived all over the South. Southern crackers love guns and beer. Their Gawd is a bearded white guy who loves American white people. Their notion of country is more appropriately described as notion of county. You can stick Southern hospitality, 'patriotism' and the whole lifestyle in a poke - otherwise known as a sack to someone who finished the fifth grade - and throw it out with the trash.

It is disgusting.

I think the "honor ideology" in the US south has its roots in Scots-Irish ancestry. More "Braveheart" than Zulu or Incan warrior drive.

As a tolerant liberal and critical thinker, your lack of Southern hospitality aimed at trifling "social engineers" is met with a smirk, a pat on the head and the promise of banana -after- you push the red button in your cage...

Here we go again.... divide and conquer strategy. The South has plenty of blacks, and more recently a great deal of Mexicans. They (Southerners) still have an irrational tendency to enjoy grouping by race, value politeness, and consider social order a virtue. The nerve! I know it comes as a source of shock and disbelief that this "honor ideology" that thing which makes southern hicks protect their loved one's with violence is a backward concept. Yes it is true- many a bruit have been relieved of brain matter at the business end of a .357 magnum while trying to defile ones wife, sister, or daughter- but look at it this way, YOU ARE THE TOLERANT LIBERALS; Therefor the burden falls at your feet to accept and tolerate the South as a unique and distinct part of the American social tapestry. We make no claim to have a desire for understanding and approval at the feet of an alien parasitic people masquerading as erudite peacemakers. Trifling "social engineers" looking for a hobby will not be met with typical Southern hospitality.

Thank God for the South. The northern weenies are committing suicide, taking everyone with them.
