Olympia Snowe Hopes to Fix Partisan Congress Once She Leaves It

As one of the last remaining Eisenhower Republicans, Ms. Snowe will be missed in Congress. It is however sad to see her claim the false equivalence of "both sides do it" as her rationale.

Yes, both sides play politics, because that is what happens in political institutions.

But both sides do not reject 80 years of progress in macroeconomics. Both sides do not pretend that centuries of scientific progress never happened. And both sides do not view 150 years of the extension of rights beyond white, straight, privileged, Christian males as an aberration that is wrecking society. Both sides don't do these things. Only one does.

I wish Ms. Snowe well in her fututre efforts, but if if she thinks lack of compromise is what is frustrating Congress, then she too will be frustrated as she tries to change that.
