It all makes for a frustrating atmosphere for the unemployed, but the bottom line is still that there are far fewer available jobs than available workers, says Koropeckyj: "You just need more job creation altogether. Otherwise you're going to have a lot of trading."

The unemployed will stay unemployed until the unemployment rate is at 4%, the point where companies hire you if you are breathing. I was laid off in 2009. Despite three contract positions since then I have too many "gaps" in my work record to be considered for other contract positions, even those where my job skills far exceed the requirements. Somehow I could do highly praised three-month jobs for Companies A, B and C but because I had two years open prior to those jobs, I am incapable of performing to that same level for other short-term contracts. Totally illogical.
