"We think it's being honest with people,"

Even if I believed Ryan, et al, were capable of anything like honesty, which I don't, this is still so much smoke blown up our collective ass. Any long term promises made by elected officials are suspect simply by the nature of our election cycle. Some, I'm working to make it many, of these current legislators won't be in office next year. A new Congress can undo,or redo, pretty much everything done by any previous Congress. How many members of this Congress campaigned on the promise to do exactly that? So, ten plans to do this, or that, aren't worth the paper they're printed on.

Hell, if I can send $1 to the Presidential campaign, why can't I send $1,000 to reduce the debt or pay for our soldiers?

Let those who pay taxes have a say in taxes. I want to be able to designate where 5% of my annual massive tax payment is spent: defense, reduce the deficit, whatever. It's my money, only half of us pay anything, why shouldn't we have a say?

John, yes let us follow that vein. Originally there was to be one rep ofr every 35,000 people, that would treble the size of congress. By all means let's get congress back to it's constitutional size!

Until most of us face the Fact that we can't keep squeezing out unearned entitlements from the government [without the currency collapsing] and until we get serious about returning the federal government to it's Constitutional Role and Constitutional Size, no worthwhile "fix" is possible.

Confidence in the currency will induce a real economic recovery, but confidence won't return until the 'current year' budgets are balanced or close to being balanced. Austerity, Combined with monetary reform which will leave an abundant and value based currency in the hands of the people for everyday use is our only healthy direction. Eliminate deficit spending and tend to the money supply concurrently.

So with a straight face, the House Republicans propose a budget that would only take 28 years to balance the budget by 2040? Is this really serious fiscal conservatism that draws a stark contrast with Obama? At the very least, I think most of us appreciate the unintentional laughs it provokes.
