And while the thrice-married Gingrich could probably be attacked by any of the other candidates on the issue of fidelity, Perry's reputation among evangelicals gives his words the most weight.

"Not only did I make a vow to my wife, but I made a vow to God. And that's pretty heavy lifting in my book," Perry said. "If you cheat on your wife, you'll cheat on your business partner, so I think that issue of fidelity is important."

These attack themes will likely serve as a template throughout the rest of the nomination race.
