My stupid ex-fianace has run off the road more than once doing this. Once she hit a tree! She has been pulled over for alleged drunk driving when she was really texting. But the cops dont give her a ticket because she's hot....BS!! She should have her license taken away!!

We must stop this americans and all. Texting is killing us and others. Wehave enough distractions while driving. Just relax pay attention to the road and liten to th music folks.

I bet it's more than 1 in 5 people, they just don't want to admit it.

Even texting a couple words counts but these results are probably people typing a damn book or email while they drive.

I think a few days to a week behind bars the first time might be good enough.**

Kevin, what rules am I making up and what exactly is a proper punishment for texting while driving? Ignorance can not be an excuse for this since there are many commercials and articles on this. No one wants to go to jail and have that on their permanent record, but there are some that just don't care. Unless they outlaw and take away cell phones all together, there really won't be a way of totally demolishing the issue, but this might decrease it.

i strongly disagree, you're only making up rules since you can't invent something proper for today's driver

Fear of being stopped isn't enough. Drivers can easily put a cell phone out of sight of an officer when driving, not to mention texting isn't easily noticed by officers watching for that. A ticket isn't enough of an enforcement if the possible consequence of texting while driving is death. I think a few days to a week the first time might be good enough.
