Great Recession Means a Diminished American Dream for Young Adults

I am one of the young adults deeply affected by the economy. For the past three years I have held my own, but my life has drastically changed. I haven't been able to obtain steady employment aside from retail and temp work. I am a very talented, smart and hard working individual. I even moved across the country to find work, but they hired someone from the inside instead. I had to move back home with my parents. It's horrible. Reality is starting to set in and I'm very heartbroken about how my life has shifted. This labor market is seemingly cruel to a young woman like me. Though, not all of my fellow peers have had to fight the same battle. I feel for the others who have had to struggle more than I have. I think more should come forward and share their stories also.

the american children will almost grow up the same way that we did when it was the 20's but the only difference is that, it's mostly all been invented already i don't think that the american young kids are quite pushed hard enough and i don't believe they are given the chances to prove themselves when they are younger a child's mind at the age of 9-14 is probably under enough stress almost to crack but like any good material it just expands and thats were i think we are loosing most of our credibility because we are not given a chance. from my point of view and from my thoughts as a 17 year old i may not be the smartest person in the world but give me time and material and you may just be surprised by what new inventions a young person could come up with or someone like me.

Economics is cyclical and the young will be very prosperous in the roaring 20's coming. This event will take ten years to shake out and things will be better again. Like the WW2 generation who had a late start to life of marriage, home, children the same will be repeated and the upper middle class baby boomer who was the grass hopper to the ant will have a dismal future as age and diminishing assets play out.

This betrayal of the younger generation is a NATIONAL DISGRACE which fully confirms the intent and goals of the Occupy Wall Street movement which I heartily endorse.

We must interdict and destroy the corporatist interregnum which has left us without a functioning government while puppet legislators are controlled by powerful lobbyists and influence peddlers.

Our young generations are TOO IMPORTANT to penalize. We must choose, now, between government by influence or government by the people.

Restoration of our democratic republic will not come easily or cheapily - powerful entrenched interests will engage in subversion, media campaigns directing one group against another and stoking religious or cultural fears. Awareness of these subversions and their exposure is the first step towards excising corporatist influence from our government.

WE will need to clean house, reform our legislatures and presidency, introduce recall elections, stop redistricting and related tricks, obsolete the "electoral college", expand the Supreme court to 20 or 30 justices and that's JUST the beginning. Probably most members of congress need to be kicked right out of office. Major investigations of corporate control of the news media are needed.

Not one cent in foreign aid, forced drastic reductions in college tuition until every single American student is provided for if we are ever to get back on track as a competitive world power.

And, what's that, out of money for health care reforms or Social Security? People paid into that for decades - time to CUT OUT the defense contractors and other profiteers, interdict the "health care" companies, REGULATE the pharmaceutical companies until their prices are competitive with European and other countries' prices for the same pills and regulate other profit busting, price fixing and monopolizing tricks that have infested our economy, sabotaged our strength and are sucking the life out of the futures of our younger generations so a small group of people can live a life of luxurious contempt in some kind of crazy neo-feudalist corporatist aristocracy which consists of them and us serfs.

Greedy bankers have ruined my and other's future. I am a scientist. There are no faculty positions available and my research and skills are going to waste. Those greedy bastards should be jailed.
