The Rich are the problem. They hog up all the money and will not hire people that want to work. The GOOBERMINT that ya'll elected doesn't care if we all starve. Why can't people just admit this to themselves? They now want unemployed people to take a drug test..........Well.........BRING IT ON, you FOOLS. I don't take drugs, I can't even afford food, how can I afford drugs... I haven't had insurance in over a year and if I needed drugs, I wouldn't be able to get them, so to me that is the most ignorant waste of money I have ever heard of. I'll take you drug test..........and guess what...I WILL PASS IT WITH FLYING COLORS....ignorant Republican hacks. I think they should test the CONGRESS and SENATE for DRUGS and maybe the President as well.

The article says that women have been making great strides in post-secondary education. The article quotes a number of statistics but neglects to mention one that is important in this context. "Of the more than 3 million college degrees for the Class of 2009, women will earn close to 60% of those degrees (1,849,200), or almost 149 degrees for every 100 degrees earned by men." Evidently, males are the under-represented minority. Such under-representation suggest anti-male bias in the admissions process or in primary and secondary education in preparing men for college. It might instead (or also) be that a sober financial calculation of a man that he will have higher life time earnings as a plumber with a high school education than his sister will as a high school teacher. Have you seen any good data and worthwhile analysis of the data about this issue? Are we wasting a lot of male talent by not getting them a college education? Are we wasting a lot of time and money on giving students of either sex educations that are nearly worthless in the job market?

the rich, the oil companies, the insurance companies, the banks, wall street and the drug companies all need to pay the same thing we pay as middle class americans! the oil companies don't pay a dime in taxes because the republicans won't allow them to pay! how smart are americans that back republicans? i think the word would be; STUPID! why do republicans back the oil companies? because the oil companies pay republicans a fortune to keep their tax free status! i'm proud of everyone of the protesters in new york right now and it's about time the unions backed them to!

Shame of you Ms. Kurtzleben and your editors to have such a misleading caption of "decline of wealthy whites" in your article. Here is the salient point: "Households headed by non-Hispanic whites still make up 82.5 percent of households making $200,000 or more per year." Meaning whites still comprise the VAST MAJORITY of those with wealth.

Although past recessions have been easier on college grads than high school grads, the needs of a "21st century economy" have magnified the stark difference between education level and joblessness that is why we need degree from "High Speed Universities"
