I have no problem with STEM, but good writing and reading skills are even more fundamental. You cannot read a science book if you cannot read. History isn't important? Civics? (It's a shame new legal immigrants have to learn this stuff to become citizens, but our children do not.) Not everybody is going to become a scientist or an engineer, some will become artists, musicians, athletes, social workers, etc. So, in our haste to improve STEM, let's not forget the rest of the kids who have other aspirations.
