This is very nice. I look forward to a future that gay marriages are totally accepted by the people.

,Through self-awareness, counseling, and associating with the right group of people (including churches) these tendencies can be significantly reduced or reversed

- from a commenter here

If one reads carefully, it is not hard to find underlying motives for some people's distaste for gay people. In this quote, you'll note the words 'right group of people' ... so apparently there are some who are pretentious enough to call themselves 'right'. Does that mean that anyone with a different viewpoint is 'wrong'?

Another wrote about higher rates of incidence of diseases and mental illness (that's a new one) in gay and lesbian populations. This undoubtedly comes from higher rates of HIV and AIDS in some gay populations, those who in the past or currently have a promiscuous lifestyle. It overlooks the fact that in Africa, where HIV is assumed to have started, most AID patients are not gay. Could it be that the virus doesn't know who is gay and who is not gay?

If one reads carefully, you can feel the fear and dread of gay people from anti same sex folks. I wonder how much of it comes from repressed gay feelings within those who accuse, belittle and disapprove so much of gay, lesbian, bisexual lifestyles.

I cannot be any more eloquent that John B. of DC. Spot on, sir. My partner of 31 years and I were married on July 24 in New York, the first day the marriage equality law went into effect. A Republican judge signed the order waiving the 24-hour rule for us. The support from family, friends, even people we barely know, has been nothing short of magnificent.

While we are now protected under New York State law, the federal government, through DOMA, continues to deny us the same basic protections and rights guaranteed to opposite-sex couples who have been married for as little as one minute, much less been committed partners for three decades. The tide is turning. No straight individuals or couples were harmed in the making of this law. The people and organizations making a lot of money based on hate will have to start looking for real jobs real soon.

A rash of teen suicides in Michelle Bachmann's district? That's something I'd like to hear more about, I've heard about that Bradlee Dean guy who apparently lives there and rips gay people to shreds whenever he can. I wonder how many kids have offed themselves?

The really funny thing is that NOM and other opponents of same-sex marriage continue to insist that the majority of Americans stand with them against it, even as numerous polls show a slim but steadily growing majority who support it--a trend that goes back several years but if anything is accelerating. Meanwhile they continue to tout the number of states where same-sex marriage has been outlawed by majority vote, conveniently leaving out how narrow most of their victories have been while completely missing the point about how (and how much) public opinion has changed in the last two years alone. The truth is that a growing majority of decent, fair-minded Americans are increasingly supportive of the basic right for same-sex couples to have legal recognition, protections, and rights for their relationships.

NOM and their supporters continue to insist that somebody, someday, somewhere, will somehow be harmed by same-sex couples being allowed to marry, but have a hard time saying just who, or where, or when or how. The "freedom" and "rights" they claim to be fighting for are really the "freedom" and "right" to discriminate IN PURELY CIVIL MATTERS against those whose relationships they don't approve of--it's as simple as that.

(An aside to those coming here from the link on NOM's blog: many of us have tried to submit comments and/or engage in debate there, but our factual, polite, on-topic and non-profane comments disagreeing with them or their commenters have been repeatedly refused by NOM's moderator. They don't want to hear the truth or facts, and they don't want their readers to hear them either. On the other hand they allow the most inflammatory, nasty, and mendacious comments by their supporters to be posted. Read through some of them and ask yourself: is that really the side you want to be on?)

NOM et all will turn themselves inside-out trying to give reasons for denying marriage to same-sex marriage, but when asked if those reasons should be applied to opposite-sex couples they don't answer.

@Sammy of WA: Every one of those NOM- and AFA-supplied talking points is a verifiable LIE. You don't even have to work hard to take down those fake straw-man arguments. These psychotic religious nutjobs LIE about LGBTQ people-- constantly.

Which is all they have. There is NO rational reason to deny CIVIL marriage rights and responsibilities to same-sex couples. "But it's icky and makes Jesus cry" is NOT a rational reason.

The exact same arguments were used to first deny black people any civil rights, and then to deny interracial couples the rights and responsibilities of civil marriage.

No one wants to subject disapproving churches to weddings of same-sex couples. They can stay as unwelcoming and small-minded as before. We are talking about civil marriage, not religious weddings. Completely different occurrences.

1.Unlike race or gender, homosexuality can be triggered though social and cultural influences. - Except, of course when you consider that people, have, will and do pass as a race or gender to which they were not born based upon social and cultural influences.

2. In comparison to heterosexuals, homosexuals are far more prone to bodily damage and disease, much of which is serious and life threatening. - At what percentage point are all marriages, opposite sex or same sex, to be denied marriage based upon these conditions?

3. Even in “committed” relationships, homosexuals, primarily men, are notoriously non-monogamous. - At what percentage point are all marriages, opposite sex or same sex, to be denied marriage based upon these conditions?

4. In areas that permit SSM, homosexuals are far more likely to divorce than heterosexuals. - At what percentage point are all marriages, opposite sex or same sex, to be denied marriage based upon these conditions?

5. Homosexuals experience more emotional and mental illness, than heterorsexuals. - At what percentage point are all marriages, opposite sex or same sex, to be denied marriage based upon these conditions?

6. Domestic violence is much more prevalent in male same-sex relationships than in heterosexual ones. - At what percentage point are all marriages, opposite sex or same sex, to be denied marriage based upon these conditions?

This is typical of those opposed to same-sex marriage, to set up conditions for which same-sex couples must pass some imaginary threshhold that does not exist for opposite-sex couples. Your entirement argument is a red herring.

who cares if the same sex wanna get married? my girl and i been together for five years the straight couples dont even last this long. i beleive its other important issues america need to be worried about like poverty, child abuse, etc. thats why obama dont talk or stress gay marriage. we are all equal. who to point a finger and critisize someone sexuality? no one!!!!!! nobody is free from sin and when u judge somebody, and do un godly things "so people say,". sin is sin theres no greater sin. so judgers u might as well be gay as well.

Homosexuality is found in over 450 species. Homophobia is found in only one. Which one seems unnatural now?
