Hugo Chavez came and has remained in power because so few people controlled almost all the Venezuelan economy i.e. the petroleum industry. This is our future if the oil industry does not tame itself. Do they care? No, they will jsut take their billions to another country and live happily ever after. Something is going to give - most likely our liberties.

Leave it to a Southern-style Democrat to defend the honor and deeds of government gone out of control.

When the president and IEA release reserves, we will have to replenish those foregone reserves at a higher cost down the road. It makes no sense and no good can come of that. In any case it's like dumping a cup of water on a bonfire...the quench is momentary and the effects are not sustainable. And please, R2, don't ignore the role of Vitrol and the violation of sanctions.

The real focus of the story here is the speculation that drives futures and thus the pump price. That whole structure should be scrutinized and then revamped - a small handful of folks have way too much control over our free market economy not to mention the global economy of which we are a part. Market systems such as this are grossly out of date and flawed.

It's all fuel for the fire...come election time.

someone would question it.

Not interesting. Our reseves are so high, it presents no risk to this country whatsoever. Who is attacking - Somali pirates? His action stopped the rising prices, and gas prices dropped 20-30 cents/gal. Sure the market played in this too, but they also falsely increase prices, so he took away their excuses.

One thing there is no shortage of - that's opinions. Especially partisan opinions.

Glad the usual suspects chimed in. Sad that this writer took the bait. Find a real issue - like ignorance in our government that allows people to think our economy can be run like a lawn mowing business instead of an international conglomerate. THAT is the story worth writing.
