LONDON—The hearing into the phone hacking scandal has resumed after a protester tried to attack Rupert Murdoch with what appeared to be white foam in a foil pie dish.

After a brief recess, the testimony of James and Rupert Murdoch resumed in a courtroom freshly cleared of the public and journalists.

Murdoch senior had removed his jacket — presumably because it had been spattered.

A man in a plaid shirt ran toward Rupert Murdoch before being struck by his wife, Wendi Deng. He was detained by police. [Vote now: Should U.K. police have arrested Rebekah Brooks?]

The attack set off a scuffle and caused a shocking interruption of a hearing into the phone hacking scandal that's rocked the media baron's global empire.
