After reading many comments readers have posted since the Weiner episode first became public, it is extremely depressing that apparently so many Americans feel we should have zero standards in our elected officials and believe the congressman's conduct is a personal matter and no one else’s business. This is what the late great Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan called the dumbing down of morality, and this says a great deal about the lack of accountability we expect in our public officials.
Married or not, an elected official should not be tweeting photos of a sexual nature to women nor should he be engaging in telephone sex with several women or doing so via the Internet. This is conduct unbecoming a person that sits in Congress, and Congressman Weiner, if he is more concerned about doing the right thing rather than his obsession with staying in power, should immediately resign. What he has proven to everyone is that his main concern is not his constituents but himself.
There are 310 million people living in America and only 535 men and women get the honor of serving their country as a congressman or senator. This is not a right but a privilege and an honor, and we have every right to expect the people we elect to uphold standards of decency and morality. When we as Americans look the other way and do not care when our representatives violate their oath of office by engaging in inappropriate behaviour we dumb down our expectations and get to the point that as long as the representative is supposedly doing their job we do not care what kind of behaviour they engage in while in office. And that is wrong.
We, as citizens, have every right and expectation that the people we elect to serve us do not embarass us and do not engage in activities that embarass the Congress and embarass their constituents. What Mr. Weiner did may be legal (even though it was highly improper) but if he wants to engage in this kind of behavior he may be free to do so, but let him do so after he resigns from Congress. We have a right to expect and demand better from our public officials.

Whether Weiner broke the law, or not ... he's still a liar and a scumbag by normal standards. If his constituency wants to keep him representing them, yeah, I guess that's their business, but it just goes to show that they don't have any normal morals or scrupples, either. Not surprising at all, though. "Birds of a feather flock together!"
Notice how the left has tried to divert attention by coming out with Palin's emails all of a sudden. He he he ... gotta laugh at that because they have not unearthed any earth-shattering news yet, have they? Of course, they will try to make something out of it, but will fail miserably.
In the 2012 election the situation is this country will change and Odumb-dumb will be out of office along with quite a few of the other Odumb-dumb minions.
I wouldn't worry too much about posting on HuffPost ... they are a liberal rag that shouldn't be taken seriously anyway.

Tried to make a couple of comments that Weiner was basically an exhibitionist and it could qualify as a psychological disorder. Also commented that Alec Baldwin jumped into the water with him. Also that his defenders do not understand the ethics principle that just appearance of bad behavior is bad in itself.
But it turns out that HuffPost has defenders of their version of reality and will block whatever they feel like. I don't blame them all as it is a great overall medium.
The real defense of Weiner is that little harm was actually done and that his wife, unfortunately, knew he was an exhibitionist to some extent. His lies is what caught him up.
It is a tempest in a teapot but also an exercise in ethical misbehavior and its consequences. This story could not have been made up.

He is putting up a legalistic defense and is only dragging out the inevitable. Those who say that he should hang on and let the voters decide are also being naive about ethics.
He should be expelled by the House of Representatives but they probably not move quickly. Republicans know that it makes the entire Democratic Party look bad. It also looks bad for liberals who think that he should hang on.
The fact that there are others still around, like Vitter, is also not a defense. To say that somebody else is getting away with a similar offense is not a valid argument in the eyes of the public.

Doesn't any one find is upsetting that are members of Congress still in office that were
not hung out to dry w/o the media attacks that has/is experiences. His district has
indicated they are pleased w/his performance. What could be worst than the bathroom
foot tapping politician that remained on the job. Not to mention the Vitter situation.
I would bring the hammer down on Wiener if everyone w/dirty hands were treated
the same. That being said, I leave the decision to the people that put him in office.

If Weiner is a true representative of his constituents, he should remain seated otherwise he should step down.
