Are you nuts?

35%, if corporations actually paid that rate, would be the highest in the world and would not only continue but probably accelerate their desire to get their butts out of this country and move somewhere that is more hospitable to corporations. That said, it is criminal that companies like GE pay nothing and the loopholes that allow them to get away with that (typically pet-projects of those in power, such as green energy, etc) should be closed. But thinking that you're going to squeeze corporations for 35% on profits is just a fantasy.

As for the "nut-jobs" in the house, given that spending has RISEN nearly 20% in the last two years, asking for 10% or so back doesn't seem like that big of a stretch. The reality is that the nut-jobs are not asking to cut in absolute dollars but to cut the rate of growth, which the supposedly sane people call a cut. Remember, there is no shortage of revenue here, it's a shortage of leadership and priority in how we spend it.

I applaud people like Ryan because he's willing to go after the real problems and work to bring this budget into control.

As a conservative, I'll tell you that I have no issues with the government helping out the truly helpless. The problem is that when the country was flush with cash, our illustrious leaders who have NO vision into the future decided to add more and more people to those programs to the point where they are unsustainable.

And finally, I saw written a few weeks ago that if you raised the taxes on those making $250K to 100% of their income over $250K you would not be able to even put a dent into this years' deficit.

There is something here that you haven't considered. These seats or at least most of them may stay blue and others may turn blue. Many Independents like my are suffering from a serious case of buyer's remorse. The House has turned into a Nut House and has shown us just how crazy the Republicans have become. Without a solid number of strong Independent candidates the only sane choice is to go back to the dems. Sure, they'll raise taxes, but that's ok because it is obvious that we can't get the deficit down without doing so unless we're willing to hurt a lot of people already hanging by a thread. I know there are many others like me who would rather see corporations no longer having bailout, tax breaks, credits or subsidies than see more people suffering. The dems are the ones who will do that. I honestly thought that fiscal conservatism meant making sure that corporations pay that 35% of their profits straight up and free market meant letting them work to earn that profit on their own without the taxes I pay going to pad their bottom line. So these seats are not going to the GOP because not only would that now be crazy, it would be murder suicide.
