In his first public statement about the group of U.S. soldiers charged with murdering three unarmed civilians in Afghanistan, President Hamid Karzai called the killings tragic, cruel, and entertainment-seeking. Rolling Stone magazine recently published several gruesome pictures of soldiers from the 5th Stryker Brigade in Kandahar province posing next to what Karzai identified as the body of a 15-year-old boy. Karzai, who has been a staunch critic of civilian deaths caused by foreigners, described Americans as good and passionate people but condemned the killings.
