The 11 Most Dangerous Cities

Thank goodness that San Diego, CA is not listed as one of the most dangerous cities to live and work in. Crime in San Diego has been on the decline since 2000, and it is rated to have the lowest crime rate among the largest cities in the United States.

I live in orlando and i have noticed how bad it is getting. We need to make a change!

I'm shocked to see Orlando, FL so high on the list. Makes me want to reconsider the vacation I have planned there. My hometown of Chicago has a terrible reputation but doesn't even make the list. Go figure!

These lists vary and can change quite a bit from year to year, which is interesting, but I do believe this says something fundamental about the cities that continually pop up.

That said, I'm not surprised to see Kansas City ranked #9. Our city is plagued by social ills not likely to be resolved in the forseeable future. Like other cities, I believe the high crime rates are the result of a mix of economic issues (fall of the industrial economy), racial issues, and the sociopathic "honor" culture that exists within the black community. While it's not widely called such, I say sociopathic because I believe valuing one's "honor" over somebody's life is just that.

I'm a pro-city person, but I can't sweep the reality under the rug like other pro-city inviduals do. Ignoring a (major) problem will not resolve it. And unfortunately, many of our cities are absolutely plagued by this social cancer.

What about New Orleans? I think it should be on this list. Sometimes at night I'll hear gunshots. My mom and I have been robbed on the street- twice. My mom caught 2 boys with guns popping my brother's trunk open. I think New Orleans should be included in this list. We do have the highest murder rate in the United States...

Overall, what is the best city to live. I am black, my husband is mexican, we are latinos with bachelor degree working on our master. Now, what city in USA, will be safer for both and our two 2year old kids.

Thank you.

Audrey, that's stupid. "Way more people" does not equal "way more diversity."

According to the 2010 US Census:

Los Angeles:

49.8% White

9.6% Black

New York City:

44% White

25.5% Black

St. Louis:

49.2% Black

43.9% White

What John said is true. All of the 11 most dangerous cities have populations with high percentages of minorities.

Jake of TX 2:49AM February 13, 2012

Really, John? Because New York City and Los Angeles have way more people than my hometown, St. Louis city. Way more people = way more diversity. In St. Louis there's diversity, but not to the extent of a much larger city.

So, in fact, your comment was racist.

Audrey of MO 3:33PM February 11, 2012

Checkout crime statistics for different cities and you will notice one thing.

In the majority of cities, the higher the minority population, the higher the crime rate will be.

thats a fact of life and just remember; if it is a fact, it can't be racist.
